What We Check

Retracted Papers

When a DOI is available, we query supported scholarly metadata sources for retraction or correction records. A check may be skipped when a source cannot be identified or a provider is unavailable.

Broken Links

When a URL is available, we test whether it can be reached. A reachable link does not confirm the source metadata or content is correct.

Missing Fields

We check for metadata fields required by the selected citation style, such as authors, dates, or titles. This check does not evaluate punctuation, capitalization, or complete formatting.

“No issues detected” means the completed checks found no issue. Checks can be skipped when a citation lacks a DOI or URL or when a provider is unavailable, and the result does not prove correct formatting.
